the whole younger kiss artist thing is something i've been mulling over a lot recently too. i wish they would come to elaine's board more, and other places where there are more of the "adult" artists, and speak up. the voting system *isn't* something to base their popularity on, but they don't necessarily know that. i think if it had been in place when i first got started it would have discouraged me (in a "oh, well, all these people don't like it so why do i bother" kind of way, though it wouldn't have stopped me because i was doing some of my early sets sort of for people i knew).
