But Harry didn't get the Elder Wand from Draco-- he got Draco's own wand. If Draco didn't know how dueling worked, he would have kept using his own wand and not tried to take DD's. Did Draco ever *take* Dumbledore's wand, or just disarm him?

Hmm, well, unless Draco dropped Dumbledore's wand and it just wasn't mentioned in the book. It doesn't say what happened to the wand, but Draco disarmed Dumbledore and then ran off, so you can assume he had the wand. Unless he dropped it and it just doesn't say. Or something.

The only other explanation I can think of is that Harry lied to Voldemort about Draco taking Dumbledore's wand and about himself being the next owner of the Elder wand and then his Expeliarmus at the end was him ACTUALLY taking ownership of it and THAT'S why the wand backfired on Voldemort.

The only problem I have with that theory is that Harry is awful at Occlumency and Voldemort would have seen that he was lying.

Did Draco ever actually have Dumbledore's wand in his hand when he disarmed him, though? Did he actually pick it up?

I don't think this is something that really requires theorizing on. IT sounds like it probably just comes down to a line getting left out of HBP.

Okay, found it. It says the wand flew over the ramparts.

Which I guess means Harry lied to Voldemort when he said "I overpowered Draco weeks ago and"

ohhhhhh, I get it now. Even though Harry didn't disarm Draco to get the Elder wand, by disarming Draco he became owner of ALL of Draco's wands.
