I liked what you said in your LJ about it: "the Happy Ending presupposes a word view that I don't hold" because I think that was exactly the problem with it. I guess the answer to "what's the point" is that being free or going to heaven or whatever is preferable to going to hell or being stuck in the machine, but then we're getting into really overt Christian overtones, where what, now it's okay that 9 got them all killed because he saved their souls?
Especially 6's death, I felt like that was totally unnecessary, because 6 supposedly *knew* the secret-- why would he sacrifice himself just to up the body count.
