I played around with a few different endings, and I thought about having it be Andrew, but I felt like even though that would make a statement about classism, it still would take away Jacinta's agency and mean that she still needed a man to prove something to her father. I wanted to make her a character who was perfectly capable on her own, but still acknowledge that it's okay for independent young women to also want to get married and have kids, which I think is the problem you sometimes see in stories where they manage to do the independent thing right-- too often, "independent" ends up translating to "asexual" or "alone."
