A few days ago, [info]sileri asked me for a non-alcoholic Peep cocktail.  Today, I went to see [info]shinyredtype who also prefers her Peeps sober.  So, here is my first virgin, kid-friendly, Peep cocktail: the  Virgin Peepmopolitan

IMG_0612

Ingredients for one drink:

Cranberry Juice
Lemon-Lime Seltzer
Bitter Lemon
Orange Simple Syrup (recipe below)
Chick-shaped Peeps
Ice

Instructions:

Put ice in a glass of any size. I used pint glasses
Fill the glass 1/2 of the way with cranberry juice
Fill it the rest of the way up with 1/2 seltzer and 1/2 bitter lemon
Add 1 Tbs orange syrup
Stir with the back of a wooden spoon
Add Peep, serve

Ingredients for Orange Simple Syrup:
1 cup water
1 cup white granulated sugar
2 large oranges, washed and halved with skins on
1/2 tsp natural vanilla extract
1/2 tsp natural orange extract

Instructions for Orange Simple Syrup:
Bring water to a boil
Add sugar and stir. Boil on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved.
Squeeze in juice from both oranges, then tear up remaining fruit and add to mixture. Stir.
Add extracts.
Boil until syrupy (it will drip slowly off the spoon instead of quickly off)
Strain orange pieces and seeds out of syrup, chill to store.

aHAHAHA. Awesome.

We made a ton of simple syrup a while back, and put it in vodka bottles. I keep getting disappointed when I remember that we really don't have that big fifth of Tito's that I thought we did.

I love simple syrup. I've gotten really into making flavored ones. I have a fennel and white balsamic one that is amazing.

I have done this every year for four or five years now, with a different drink. Last year's didn't get posted, I think, but it was rum and Godiva and cream with chocolate Peeps in it.

Thanks to the (486) medications I take, I can't drink alcohol, so seeing something like this completely brightens my day. Thanks for sharing it! I may have to make some of these tomorrow, if I have the energy!

That's fantastic. :)

I had some friends who were making candy cocktails for a while, using jellybeans and all kinds of horrible stuff.

Oh, good. The various ingredients can be adjusted based on what you have-- you could use orange juice instead of the syrup if that's too much work for you, and different flavors of soda could be substituted, too.

That syrup idea looks great. I've got two oranges I need to do something with before my next box shows up. I'm not sure of the availability of Peeps in town, but I can certainly come up with the rest and toss in some marshmallow fluff to be my Peep.

It is tasty! Also, the Peeps soak up whatever you put them in so if you make it alcoholic you end up with a delicious liquor-flavored marshmallow. I made more last night with pomegranate juice and lime syrup instead.

Oh, and my parents enjoyed themselves very much Friday night! My dad loved his bacon sundae.

I've made Peep drinks with vodka or gin soaked jellybeans. Also, gourmet lollipops are very good in many recipes. See's lollipops are really good in bourbon.
