Yeah, I think the end was a letdown for me not because of what I expected before the movie started, but because by about a third of the way through the movie, I thought I could see where it was going and I thought it was going to be something braver.
I did appreciate that they attempted to handle the whole issue of Will Smith's character having to adapt to being a black man in 1969, even if they didn't carry through with it completely, and that character reactions were appropriately different. The driving while black scene was one of the best moments in the movie, although obviously that could have been a contemporary scene and didn't need to be in the 60s.
