Watch my spoiler-free video response, starring [livejournal.com profile] liret and [livejournal.com profile] twowishesleft.

If you can't watch the video, know that Jess and Nikki are singing the Indiana Jones theme. And this movie? In the grand scheme of Indy? Like, in Raiders, we have the Jewish treasure, and in Temple of Doom we have like the fake Hindu treasure, and Last Crusade has the Christian treasure, and this one? I think this one had the Scientologist treasure.

Scientoligist?!

Okay, I saw the movies when I was kid, but all I remembered were the traumatizing scenes, and they were shady. I watched the first one lately, and what I want to know is, if I'm really grossed out by the idea of monkey brains, should I still try to watch the second movie? I remember horrible gross bits of the third movie, but they're already ingrained, so there's no point in trying to avoid it.

I don't really recall any of the movies being horrible and gross? So I am probably not the person to ask! My friends say the monkey brains thing is the worst though.

HELLO

People melting

Monkey brains

Hearts ripped out of chests

More people melting

Etc.

Yeah, but I don't really think of any of those as being that gross? The hearts being ripped out of chests is a little freaky, but it's all almost cartoon violence. None of it even grossed me out when I was a little kid and they were some of my favorite movies. But my other favorite movies were the Poltergeist trilogy.

Oh, man, the first one freaked me out as a kid by the skeletons in the snake pit.

Temple of Doom had a lot of squicky things for me. I didn't get bothered by the chilled monkey brains, but the scene where Willie was surrounded by all those REALLY BIG BUGS... I kind of got a little icked out by that. But if you can avoid the monkey brains, go straight to the Indy/Willie 5 minutes banter scene, and then avoid the bugs, you'll be good.

Yeah, I don't remember monkey brains (did I psychologically block it out?), but I was definitely freaked out by all of those as a kid. YOU'RE THE WEIRDO, NOT ME. IT MUST BE SO.

Word on the hearts thing. That didn't bother me near as much as some of the other scenes in Temple of Doom.

Scientologist treasure? That's win.

I didn't care too much for The Last Crusade as I did for the other two films, but Raiders of the Lost Ark had the most squirky moment of all. Melting Nazi faces, that's enough to gross out a kid. Granted, I laughed when I saw that scene in the movie when they were airing it on USA network.

Cool beans. I'm thinking of going this afternoon.
I don't really remember much of the previous three. It has been awhile since I've seen them. But I absolutely LOVE the ride at Disneyland? And the theme song gives me happy feelings. I'm also jealous at just how much Ellen gave to her audience on her show yesterday because it included a box of the three Indy movies (also all seasons of Sex and the City, Wii plus Wii Fit, Josh Groban's "Awake Live" album, and Pucci sunglasses).

K, you can't have friends who are named Nikki who are not me b/c that's just super confusing. Lolz, when I go to Portus this summer it's going to be a Nikki and Jess running around as well.

You guys are so cute.

I can't wait to see this movie this weekend!

Most of the bits you don't like were in Temple of Doom (sry 2 say the face melt in Raiders of the Lost Ark is hilarious). That's totally the worst of the 3 movies. Last Crusade ftw, at least, until I see this movie, and maybe like it better. Hard to say.

Yeah, I think I always thought the face melting was funny?

I would say Last Crusade is still the best of the movies. But I was glad that this one at least held up and was a respectable Indy movie, as opposed to it spoiling the first three in retrospect.

Good! :D I was telling a friend the other night that if this movie dashed my hopes and dreams like the new Star Wars movies did, I'd be very upset.

Yeah, I think the difference was I laughed when I was five or six and saw the movie for the first time. I would think Temple of Doom would be the most freak-out-y, but I'm just not freakout-able, so I'm a bad person to ask.

Holy crap, that's a lot of stuff.

I don't think you need to really remember the earlier ones. There are some things from Raiders in this one, but they're big things that I doubt you'll forget.

I AM SORRY, NIKKI. I WILL ASK MY OTHER NIKKI IF SHE MINDS BEING PENELOPE.

Although, she was technically Nikki #1, so maybe I have to ask you to be Penelope.

Is it really?! OMG. I don't even know other people who have SEEN it. It's one of my favorites ever TOO. Obviously, since it's one of like three movies I have icons of.

Yeah, I was worried about that too, especially since I wasn't all that jazzed by the trailer, but I think they did a decent job.

My whole family loves the movie, my brother and I have ongoing geeky Preposition jokes about it. So now you know three more people who have seen it!

And dude, we have SAME ICON SUPER BUDDYFULLNESS now! That's like magic. *nods sagely*

So, has you got the soundtrack? Because if you don't you NEED to have it. It is so pretty, in a Nick Cave sort of way!
