The state I'm in requires that all people in it be covered by some sort of medical plan, or else risk being heftily fined when tax time rolls around. I like the idea of everyone being covered, but what about the people who can't afford either one? What's sad is the "hefty fines" are less than what would be taken out of my paychecks to pay for a plan. I work full time - 40 hours a week, I am young, I am healthy, but I'm broke. I have no room in my budget to start a 401k, let alone flush $500+ a month on something the state requires me to have. It just blows my mind, that they'd make a law like that.

My car is insured, though. My car has better medical than I do.
