[livejournal.com profile] _samalander did a meme where we're supposed to post a poem if we see it. She wrote a poem for it, which I thought was doubly cool, even though it was a joke, so I am going to do the same.

When you see this meme, post a poem to your Livejournal

Or write your own! Or ignore it, whatever. Here's mine:

They'll take no notice if you cry despair.
It takes more weight to bruise a paradigm.
So take a match to castles in the air.

They left us to the woods; the cupboard's bare.
We'll follow trails of breadcrumbs as we climb.
They'll take no notice if you cry despair.

The gates are barred and locked; the golden stair
Is left to fail the test of creeping thyme.
So take a match to castles in the air.

And if we starve, who's left to know or care?
"Come in," she said,"the gingerbread's sublime."
They'll take no notice if you cry despair.

No matter how she combs or plaits her hair,
She's paying still for someone else's crime.
So take a match to castles in the air.

The verse is laid down with a certain flair.
It speaks to reason but still makes no rhyme.
They'll take no notice if you cry despair.
So take a match to castles in the air.

Love that format :)

I have a friend coming to keep me company today (yay!) so I probably won't get around to doing this, but some of my poems are up on my Web site, which is here (and really outdated, hah!) if you'd ever like the seem them!

And I was trying to edit my comment when you replied, lol, so the edit wouldn't take, but "ever like the seem them" makes no damn sense. Brain = FAIL today. So I'll try again: "if you'd ever like to see them."

There we go. Brain feels better now. Silly brain.

And I love villanelles, too :0

Oh, don't worry about it. I am so dyslexic that I don't even notice when people use the wrong words because I chunk sentences!

Ooh, is this a Tea original? I first came across villanelles in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and subsequently wrote two as part of my NaNo '06. Don't think I've written any besides those, though. And...basically I am drooling over this meme because my main source of enjoyment this term is poetry - what with buying new poetry books (I am now at a total of 21 books just up at college with me) and taking a creative writing class and listening to Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac radio show poems - although I am 7 behind now! Except that I can't possibly narrow it down to just one to post. And should I post my own? Or someone else's? Or....

Expect more on this topic to come!

Yes, I just wrote it for the meme on my lunch hour!

And the meme is to post a poem-- any poem. I just decided to write my own!

Cool!

And I understand it's any poem - I just can't decide what I want to do, and now I'm all of a sudden tempted to turn my oft-neglected livejournal into an ongoing series of "Poems Rebecca Likes."

You should have your FL write a composite poem in the comments. I tried that once; it was a lot of fun.
