[livejournal.com profile] liret just called to inform me that she saw a copy of DH that was accidentally put out early in a bookstore.

It is in the New Haven Train Station, if anyone wants one.

And in case anyone wants to know for sure whether the carpet copy is real,

It is.

PS: MAJOR SPOILERS IN COMMENTS.

Hee, I am so glad!

The wank that attempts to disparage its veracity is hilarious, though. IT IS ALL A PLOT BY SCHOLASTIC. THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE SOLD ENOUGH BOOKS WITHOUT A PUBLICITY STUNT FEATURING A FAKE BOOK. Or something.

I don't fucking get how, like, EVERYONE following the spoiler communities seems to hate the while ALL the huge HP fans I know adore it so far. Or at least think it's much better than HBP. I don't know what the deal is with these people except that maybe they weren't hugged enough as children and they just hate the world so much that they want to spew vitriol at everything.

I think mostly there are great numbers of shippers. I'm not saying *all* are shippers, some will legit loathe it, but the numbers of Harmionians is interesting. Also Lupin fans, who did kind of get screwed, to be fair.

A friend of mine hates it for plot holes, which is fair enough. I dunno; to me it seemed the most distilled JKR of teh lot, and I loved it on that basis.

Yeah. They were so stressed they released a fake far better than HBP, which might well totally show up the real book.

GREAT PLAN!

Fucking seriously. I can think of maybe two people on my flist who didn't like it, but, eh, they read for different reasons than I do. Really I think they are mostly just disgruntled shippers, and, really? If you are that concerned about which teenager ends up with which other teenager in a fictional book? You need to be stabbed repeatedly in the eyeball.

Heh I was just typing the same thing about shippers myself. And agreed on Lupin getting screwed over, but he was majorly featured in two other books so I am not terribly sorry for his fans.

I really thought that she mnaged to avoid the plot holes in this one more than any other thus far, honestly. It was a pretty streamlined book.

I don't think the plot holes were that huge, really. But yeah, valid reasons for disliking it based on taste? OKAY BY ME. And I can kind of see the issue for Lupin fans, although he's one of my faves and it only bothered me slightly. I sort of guessed he was dead when Tonks freaked out and then we saw someone else battling Dolohov, and I liked that it happened offscreen, to an extent, but I would have liked a few more lines about it, and definitely wanted to see Tonks get screwed over because she lost her cool when Remus went down.

Anyone who is reading it hoping that that ship is going to happen at this point really had to've been dropped on their head as a baby. I mean, preferring it? Okay! I like Harry/Luna myself and I kind of think Ginny was an awful bitch in this last book, to Cho especially, but I'm not going to get all mad at the book when it didn't happen. I've never seethed in rage over the lack of MoodyxFlitwick, either!

Man, reading some of those page scans makes me glad I never read any of the Harry Potters past Prisoner of Azkaban. I'm not pissed about any of the character spoilers, but seriously... The writing is just horrid in comparison to the ones I remember reading. I mean, was she too distracted by the publicists slobbering all over her in anticipation of their next cash cow or what?

This one was much better than the last one. The writing is tight up through Goblet of Fire, but I think they gave her more editorial control, which was a mistake.

*snicker* But NO NO THE PIXELS! THERE ARE PIXELS! AND JKR COMMITS A GRAMMATICAL ERROR SO IT CAN'T BE TRUE BECAUSE SHE NEVER EVER EVER DOES THAT EVER.

I agree. The only plot holes I noticed were really ones that had to do with contradictions that had already cropped up in earlier books.

Textbook case of George Lucas Syndrome. Makes sense.

I can't see major plot holes either, but then I wasn't really looking - I was all WHEE I LOVE THIS STORY. Plus I'm not really a canon freak, anyway - I mean, JKR sucks at continuity, so I'm back to the "are you new?" reaction. But I wub a couple of people who hate it, so oh well. I won't diss their reasoning, I'll just snuggle it to my (fabulous, actually) bosom.

The other thing that I noticed in a lot of comments in the spoiler communities is that I think quite a few people only read the epilogue and then the spoilers for the rest of the book. They hate it but they haven't actually read the whole thing - moreso at the its_a_fake community, but I've seen several comments along the lines of "Well I've just read the epilogue, and what a pile of crap, there's no way this is real." Well yeah, the epilogue sucked. But in the context of the book as a whole it's hardly that big of a deal.

Plus its the HP fandom. People are insane. Completely fucking batshit insane.

Wait, insane people in our fandom? Why was I not informed?

And yeah, I have seen a ton of this, and I think if I hadn't read the book from the beginning, I would have thought the epilogue was lame. I'm still not a huge fan, but I think it's much more fitting after reading the book, especially Harry's little talk to Albus Severus. I hope he decides to just let the hat sort him where he goes and goes to Slytherin.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what exactly the plot holes are myself. Minor issues, absolutely. Inconsistencies? Sure. But really "are you new?" is pretty much the best reaction to complaints about the inconsistencies. This is not a woman known for her ability to keep the details straight.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll see plenty of posts detailing every plot hole in the days to come. Me? I'm with you in the book snuggling camp.

It wasn't him dying, apparently, they just felt he was a bastard. I was less down with that interpretation, but oh well.

Personally I am sniffy that Voldemort wasn't redeemed by the love of a good Dementor.

Or being concerned about the age of consent.

My office manager knows her continuity editor. Like, they actually finally hired one for this book. Which I think is why it's tighter than previous.

OKAY SO I WASN'T INSANE.

I thought so, too, I was like, hey, how did they get it back?!

But I just trust that now that Neville can DO FUCKING EVERYTHING, he just made a new one.
