Roger Ebert just linked my post about the "I write like" meme.

Many of you may not know this, but I went to film school, and he is one of my personal heroes, so this...well, it gave me butterflies in my tummy.

For those of you who've just found my journal, welcome!

I write here, and at antagonia.net, where you can read all of my comics, and Dreamwidth if you prefer that service to LJ.

Please feel free to friend me! Many of my posts are public, and I do talk a little about media and culture, although mostly I draw comics. I also post cocktail recipes and things. It's a bit of a hodgepodge. I can't promise I will friend back, but I will always try to engage in discussion with you when I can.

If you want to know more about me, I'm the Associate Comics Editor at King Features Syndicate, so I read and talk about comics pretty much all day long. I draw comics in my spare time and sometimes sell them at indie comic shows! I live in New York and am in the process of moving to Queens. And I like chickens.

For friends and others: take a look at the new comments people are adding! I wanted to let you know that there is more discussion going on, and it might be more than I can engage with on my own!

Calvin and Hobbes. But I have a special squishy place for Prince Valiant.

Tea = Awesome, clearly.

Heck, this meme thing was reported on by the AP! Unfortunately, the AP article didn't nearly touch on any of the valid criticisms you brought up.

It got reported a lot of places where no one criticized or questioned it. Which was disappointing to me, that people whose job it is to be incisive about these things weren't really doing that.

Yeah. Maybe the criticism will get more attention now that Mr. Ebert has signal boosted you?

I'm tired of saying "you're awesome" over and over again, but you really are. :P

Thanks. I feel a little funny with people complimenting me for this, though, because I didn't do it to get a prize. I saw an issue with something and felt like it was a good point for discussion. I'm really happy that other people feel the same.

Well, I actually meant that you're awesome for doing it in the first place, but I guess I should have said that there. Sorry. I'm just glad that more people now know how awesome you are.

I don't see it as as people giving you a prize necessarily. I personally admire people who stick up for their beliefs... I have a hard time being as concise and decisive as you are and often end up doing nothing. When people do things like this it reminds me of what's possible and encourages me to try to be a better person.

I will also admit to a little bit of star-struck silliness as well.

Okay, that's sort of epic. Thumbs up!

Also, I don't know if you, or anyone else here has read this tidbit about the meme, but it makes things a little more interesting, I think.

The thing about that was that it's advertised on the page and I thought it was obvious to everyone, so I never saw any reason to point it out.

It doesn't bother me in the least. Most memes are made to promote something, whether it's a product or a company or even someone's personal website. I used to make memes to promote my RPG and for FictionAlley.

Sure, I don't really think vanity publishers are always totally ethical, but I don't really see using a meme to promote your business as bad news.

It does tell me that if I were going to use a vanity publisher, it would not be one that didn't closely monitor the output of its memes.
