[livejournal.com profile] sileri gave me this meme. Here's the deal:

You comment to my post asking for five words. I will give you five words that I think of when I think of you. You will post them to your blog and post what those words make you think of, in depth.

The words [livejournal.com profile] sileri gave me are as follows: crusader, honeycomb, natural, egg, mix

my take on these words and how they apply to me below the cut )

Do you want to play? Let me know you want words, and I will give them to you!

[livejournal.com profile] stoopid_silly  asked for an Arthur Weasley:

Next, I owe a pic to [livejournal.com profile] ninepointfivemm . Does anyone else want one? Is for me to practice; I will be happy to draw a few more.

And now...[livejournal.com profile] stoopid_silly  did one of those random anonymous comments about people things. Which I always think about doing and then I'm like, but what about the mean ones?

I just realized I don't have to do mean ones. You'd think this would not take this long to figure out. Anyway, I am giving myself another limitation, which is that none of these are about the close friends I talk to on a regular basis (so no [livejournal.com profile] liret , no [livejournal.com profile] cacophonesque , no [livejournal.com profile] quizzicalsphinx , among others). That way I am challenged to say things to people I don't often talk to!

I did it the super random way where I pulled up my flist, closed my eyes and pointed.

1) I don't know you very well, but I think you are extremely talented and have the potential to go far in life! I hope your chosen field works out for you!
2)Your posts are always both thoughtful and personal, and I feel like you give me a window into your life whether there are ups or downs without ever being self-pitying or self-hating.
3) Your art is awesome! Every time I see a post from you, it makes me smile in the warm bubbly way.
4) You always seem to have a positive and practical outlook on things. You have a lot of perseverance and don't let things get you down when you try something new and it's not perfect the first time.
5) You are someone I used to talk to a lot more frequently, and I was sorry when we stopped. You have always been very creative and wise beyond your years.
6) I know you hardly at all, but you seem so supporting and loving toward other people all the time!
7) Wow. You are so together for a person your age, that I am constantly impressed by you. You really seem to have it all figured out.
8) I like that you post intelligently about unpopular opinions. I think a lot of the time, people get defensive or abrupt when they know they might face disagreement, and you always handle yourself with both dignity and levelheadedness.
9) You're one of those rare people whom I feel like I know a lot better than I do-- it just seems like when I do talk to you, I almost always know we will have similar ideas. Sometimes, you just feel comfortable around somebody. You're one of those people for me.
10) I have such a fangirly crush on you. You're cute and philosophical and creative, and you express yourself beautifully, and that's amazing.

To all the rest of you, I love you all! <3 Augh! I don't know why my post is wonking out and being scrolly. WTF, post?

I don't really have anything else to say now, so I will just post a meme:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

Actually, I do. I just got caught up on [livejournal.com profile] shaenon's new comic the other day (yes, I have to read comics for work). And it is possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life.

Skin Horse. Yes, I linked you to the first page so you can read it in order. I seriously was laughing so hard I was crying.

I will have more to post tonight! I am going to a party for one of my friends from high school. It is a cocktail party. So, should be interesting. Wow.

Apparently, a rock band has moved in upstairs from me. It is getting ridiculously annoying, the drumming all the time. I don't really understand why people who know they're going to be making that much noise move into apartments above other people.

<3 you all!

So, as we've been discussing over in [profile] quizzicalsphinx 's livejournal, this meme seems to be incredibly biased not only culturally but also in terms of the priorities that the people who wrote it assume for other people, and how they expect everyone has the same priorities they do, or that they assume that people of a certain class all act the same way.

Part of the reason I'm doing this is because I know that I am from a privileged background, but I feel that my parents' priorities and my own affect the outcome of this survey more than my background.  I think I'm ticking a lot less of these than they expect someone 'privileged' to bold.

From What Privileges Do You Have?, based on an exercise about class and privilege developed by Will Barratt, Meagan Cahill, Angie Carlen, Minnette Huck, Drew Lurker, Stacy Ploskonka at Illinois State University. If you participate in this blog game, they ask that you PLEASE acknowledge their copyright.

Bold what applies etc.

Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor  This question in itself shows a tremendous bias in favor of academics as most people would not necessarily put  "College Professor" on the same line as  "Doctor" and "Lawyer."
Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers I think that this is another very biased question and it's one that assumes all high school kids are observant enough to make this call, or that the teachers aren't careful enough to mask their class standing in a poorer school.  I was not a higher class than my teachers but definitely the same class as my teachers.  This would be a better question if it just asked 'higher class' because it says more about someone who assumes teachers are of a lower class than they are regardless of whether the teachers actually are.  I understand the intent of this question, but I think it fails.
Had more than 50 books in your childhood home
Had more than 500 books in your childhood home
I don't know for sure, but I know we had over two hundred.
Were read children's books by a parent
Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18
Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18

The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively -- I'm a  Long Islander.  We have never been portrayed positively by the media.
Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18
Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs
Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs
Went to a private high school
Went to summer camp
Had a private tutor before you turned 18
Family vacations involved staying at hotels - rarely, but they did once in a while. Usually they involved staying with relatives.
Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18 - All of my clothing was handmade or hand-me-down until I turned about ten.  Sometimes I got new clothing as a gift from relatives.
Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them- I have never driven.
There was original art in your house when you were a child
Had a phone in your room before you turned 18 - a phone but not a phone line, installed for my 16th birthday.  Which was actually my mother putting a ten-year-old rotary phone in my bedroom because she was sick of me locking people out of her bedroom to talk about boys.
You and your family lived in a single family house
Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home
You had your own room as a child -- I had my own room most of the time.  We had a lot of different people living with us at different times throughout my childhood, and because of that, I had my own bedroom when there weren't other little girls living with us.
Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course
Had your own TV in your room in High School
Owned a mutual fund or IRA in High School or College
Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16 -New Orleans once, Florida twice.  The New Orleans one was paid by my father's company.
Went on a cruise with your family - My father worked for a cruise ship company.  I have still never been on a cruise.
Went on more than one cruise with your family
Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up
You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family - My father started showing me bills for regular household items when I was about seven and explained how much it cost to run the air conditioner, the heat, how much to buy gas for the car, and how much to leave lights on.  If I left lights on or needed a ride anywhere, it came out of my allowance.
