[livejournal.com profile] liret just called to inform me that she saw a copy of DH that was accidentally put out early in a bookstore.

It is in the New Haven Train Station, if anyone wants one.

And in case anyone wants to know for sure whether the carpet copy is real,

It is.

PS: MAJOR SPOILERS IN COMMENTS.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.

This is generally my attitude. Honestly, if a book is WORSE because you know what happens, it's not a very good book.

HELL YES.

It doesn't hurt that I am the biggest Moody fangirl known to man.

Oh man the only think that would make the HP books better would be a few daleks runing the Ministry.

Heh yeah, I was thoroughly spoiled as to the deaths before reading the carpet copy, and managed to sob I think a good five times at various points in the book. I like to know what happens in advance, but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment.

And, honestly? In this book I think JKR manages to achieve a level of poignancy in her writing that she hasn't shown before. There are a hell of a lot of touching moments, both little and big.

IAWTC. I haven't felt emotionally invested in an HP book since Azkaban.

:) That quote came to mind immediately after reading that comment.

I can't wait for sorting next term. It is going to be really interesting to see how things change now that people have been able to see the entire story arch.

Should we add a question that asks if they have read DH?

I was DYING when they talked about Aberforth getting done for fiddling with goats. If that isn't a shout-out to the parents reading bedtime stories, I don't know what is.

The only reason I thought the carpet copy had a slight chance of being fake was that it was too good. Well, save the silly epilogue, but that just amuses the fuck out of me. And really it wasn't a matter of being invested because it's the last book, but because she recaptured that feel for character.

We used to have a question on the app just asking if they've read all of the books, but I don't know if it will come back. The app will go through some revisions before the next term starts, I'm sure and depending on when sorting restarts there may be some sort of spoiler policy regarding applications. We were open through the release of HBP and it was definitely interesting.

Hahahaha, fair enough. Personally I'm in the "I WANT THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE BODY COUNT IMAGINABLE!!!" camp, so I'm pulling for him being dead. :)

I don't know what the deal is with these people except that maybe they weren't hugged enough as children and they just hate the world so much that they want to spew vitriol at everything.

I take offense at that, Tea, did it ever occur to you that some of us just enjoy spewing vitriol for NO JUSTIFIED REASON AT ALL?
From: [identity profile] teaberryblue.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'm not a fan of that question, because we had so many people who would squib ANYONE who hadn't read the last book yet, even if it was clearly people who couldn't afford the hardback or people who were new fans and found us around the fourth or fifth book. Squibbing someone because of something they'll amend in a couple months when the squibbing is permanent just kind of sucked to me.

I think just asking members not to spoil in voting comments is a better way to go.

He says with him alive, the body count would be even higher. ON THE OTHER SIDE.

BUT YOU'RE DIFFERENT.

AND YOUR VITRIOL IS FUNNEH.

Hahahaha well yes, but you know me and my love for the evil guys. We need more dead good guys, damnit! War is bloody!

As with many things in H_E, it was a question that started out well and then became problematic when we got some of the erm...perhaps a little overzealous members into the community. I don't support its return, but we might end up coming up with some sort of "If you have not yet read Deathly Hallows, please indicate as much at the top of your application and members will refrain from mentioning spoilers in the comments" policy, at least for a while. Although the initial apps we're going to get are actually going to be ones in the queue now - pre DH, so that will give us a little buffer at least. Maybe. I suppose I should probably talk to Noah about this and figure out what we're going to do.

How the hecks were you all able to read the first page of chapter 3 on the carpet version. I was going cross-eyed trying and still couldn't get through it =/

HAhaha I didn't, I just ignored it.
From: [identity profile] teaberryblue.livejournal.com
Yeah. I think most of the members right now have gotten way cooler about not sorting people based on weird rules that they make up in their head but I'm sure we can all think of a few whose names I won't mention in a public post :-P
From: [identity profile] ariesathena.livejournal.com
And really I'd probably be depressed if they all went away because then I wouldn't have any more inspiration for my sorting rants! I do love my sorting rants...

The one thing I'm slightly confused about, though I might have to read the book again, is how, if Draco ran off with the Elder wand in HBP after disarming Dumbledore, did the wand then get into Dumbledore's grave? Why didn't Snape just take it from Draco?
