[livejournal.com profile] liret just called to inform me that she saw a copy of DH that was accidentally put out early in a bookstore.

It is in the New Haven Train Station, if anyone wants one.

And in case anyone wants to know for sure whether the carpet copy is real,

It is.

PS: MAJOR SPOILERS IN COMMENTS.

I really hope the plague chants "Exterminate! Exterminate!" in a sharp treble with a slight reverbish vibrato.

That would be fantastic.

I'm such a wh0re that I read through all of the other comments anyways. My wank is for show, lol. But knowing about deaths, etc, will not keep me from crying as I read the books though. My experience will not be spoiled by knowing some of what happens beforhand. I've always enjoyed the little details or smaller scenes of the books aways... character development stuff, or the humorous exchanges.

This is generally my attitude. Honestly, if a book is WORSE because you know what happens, it's not a very good book.

Oh man the only think that would make the HP books better would be a few daleks runing the Ministry.

Heh yeah, I was thoroughly spoiled as to the deaths before reading the carpet copy, and managed to sob I think a good five times at various points in the book. I like to know what happens in advance, but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment.

And, honestly? In this book I think JKR manages to achieve a level of poignancy in her writing that she hasn't shown before. There are a hell of a lot of touching moments, both little and big.

IAWTC. I haven't felt emotionally invested in an HP book since Azkaban.

The only reason I thought the carpet copy had a slight chance of being fake was that it was too good. Well, save the silly epilogue, but that just amuses the fuck out of me. And really it wasn't a matter of being invested because it's the last book, but because she recaptured that feel for character.
