Last night, [livejournal.com profile] cacophonesque and I went to a bar and then to dinner.

We started talking about The Myers-Briggs< Inventory, and discovered we had the following in common:

--We both score very close to the threshold on the "E/I" (Extrovert/Introvert) scale, and often switch sides because we are just a few points from the middle.
--We both score as an N on the "N/S" (Intuiting/Sensing) scale.
--We both score as a P on the "J/P" (Judging/Perceiving) scale.

On the last scale, one of us is an "F" (Feeling) and one of us is a "T" (Thinking).

We were wondering if our friendslists could guess. Many of you know both of us, so we were wondering.

[Poll #1539789]

Please tell us why in the comments!

The best conversations are usually over beers :)

That aside, my guess is that Destiny is the *NTP. But I have been wrong before. I could see how both of you could fit the NT part, honestly, given the things I've read about both of you, our conversations, and your comments toward me and others.

I'm an ENFP, but that was probably pretty easy to determine :)

That makes a lot of sense for you! The only part I wouldn't be able to guess if I thought about it was the E part, but I think for most people, it's hard to tell online who is an extrovert and who's an introvert.

My immediate thought was that Destiny is the *NTP because of the way she reasons through even her emotional responses to things, and because of the way it seems like she experiences emotional epiphanies as a result of thinking through her memories. I am definitely an NT (although I'm INT*) and that process is very familiar to me.

It is interesting to see friend's results and how they are similar and different from our own. I can definitely see the NT part of yours, and why you would be close on the J/P scale.

I guessed Denstiny, and I think that's the obvious choice. So the fact that there is a poll, makes me think it might be the opposite! *over analyzing*

I love Myers-Briggs testing! I'm always strongly INT, but J/P is always almost 50-50. I really don't know which I am, but I think over the years I'm going from slightly more J to slightly more P. maybe.

Well, this wasn't meant to be a trick question. It was more "do our online personalities (what other people see online) jive with the way we interact in person? Let's find out through the wonders of science polls!"

I guessed that you are the NTP Tea. I just gets the feeling that Destiny might be a bit like me, we seem thinking but are rather feeling under the surface. And you're so damn logical a lot of the time *grins*.

Honestly, no clue I have a hard time telling the difference between what is really N (intuitive) and S (sensing) anyway. THey always seemed a bit of the same coin to me... *scratches head*

(no subject)

Date: 2010-03-18 07:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zia-narratora.livejournal.com
Oh! That one is easy! The S (sensing) means you make decisions based on what you sense (what is observable in the outside world). The N (intuiting) is when you make decisions by observing things and then analyzing them or considering what those observations mean.

But our difference is between T and F anyway, thinking and feeling! Or my initials.

I'm an INTJ, and I'm having a bad time avoiding social media today. (I was an E in my early college career, but since Tim is more E than I am, I have slipped more deeply into the I category over time and circumstantially.)

I would have no clue as to who is which, but this is still entertaining.

Because I think the INTP profile is really, really Destiny-ish:

Seek to develop logical explanations for everything that interests them. Theoretical and abstract, interested more in ideas than in social interaction. Quiet, contained, flexible, and adaptable. Have unusual ability to focus in depth to solve problems in their area of interest. Skeptical, sometimes critical, always analytical.

Whereas I see you as an ENTJ:

Frank, decisive, assume leadership readily. Quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. Enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others. Forceful in presenting their ideas.

I said you were the *NTP, very unscientifically. Because I am actually an *NTP (I, too, fluctuate between E and I), and when I had dinner with you/talked in person, I got a similar vibe in that respect. (M-B is frustratingly unscientifically validated in personality psychology, btw, but I like to think of it as an "outlook probe" rather than a "personality diagnosis.") I think from internet only, I wouldn't have been able to tell though...

And I don't know Destiny, so I can't say anything about the relative context!

Without reading the other comments, I reckon Destiny's the T and you're the F, although I suspect that for both of you it is really borderline and contextual.

I think I'm mostly going on the fact that many of her LJ entries are more analytical and introspective than heavily emotional, which is a lousy baseline, but there you go.

I said you were the *NTP, but it was close. This is really hard, because I think you're both "feeling" people, but both able to - and prone to, I think - think through your feelings and emotional reactions.

Having said that though, I think Destiny is the F, because thinking back over my impressions of her LJ entries, the word that comes to mind is "water". Just doing word association, the sort of things I come up with when I think of water are to do with intuition, emotion, and those things are more on the F side for me. Not to say that those things don't apply to you as well, but your LJ and what I know of you seems to be more like "earth", since I'm intent on doing this elements assocation for some reason. Don't ask, it's still Coffee O'Clock. ;P My impression of you is more about logic and being slightly less of a feeling person who expresses that through analysis and exploring those feelings. I think you and Destiny are similar, but I get the feeling that she expresses the feeling side a little bit more, which is where I'm getting the watery association.

Of course, my interpretations of things have been known to run entirely counter to common sense and reality, so I could be way off the mark! XP

I'm usually an ENTJ, but I sometimes waver on the J/P side.

This is a really interesting response! It is exciting! And I know what you mean about watery-- feelings are more fluid whereas thoughts are more concrete.

Thinker or feeler

Date: 2010-03-19 05:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nutharker.livejournal.com
Tea is the Feeler and Destiny is the Thinker-

If everyone pays close attention to the formative periods in their lives one can readily realize that a person who is locked in an upstairs room in Maine during the winters with NO heat can't possible feel anything. What else can one do in that situation but think? I suspect that denial may surface on this board shortly!

Additionally, if in Tea's early year's she was deprived of candy, ice cream meat (love those soybean burgers don't you Tea?) and other normal childhood tastes, all she could possibly do is feel that she was missing something. The feeling became even more pronounced when her baby brother was spared that taste deprivation.

Tamara- if I am wrong please find your other father!!! Perhaps Walter will help you.
